Edinburg police identify victims in deadly crash

Three people were killed and two were taken to a hospital after a two-vehicle crash in Edinburg Thursday night, according to police Chief David White.
Police say at about 9:30 p.m., two vehicles collided head-on near the 300 block of Monte Cristo Road, east of Closner Boulevard.
Preliminary investigation reveals a 2006 Chevy Malibu—driven by a 19-year-old man from Edinburg—swerved off the road and went the wrong way, hitting a 2014 Chevy Sonic occupied by four people, according to Assistant Chief Oscar Treviño.
Three of the passengers of the Chevy Sonic, identified as 55-year-old Maria Isabel De La Garza, 33-year-old Marcilou Powell and 3-year-old Joshua Devin Powell, also from Edinburg, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Chevy Sonic was taken to a hospital and remains in critical condition.
The 19-year-old driver of the Chevy Malibu, who hasn’t been identified, was taken to a hospital and remains in serious condition under police watch. Police say pending an investigation, the driver may face criminal charges for intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault.
The fatal crash remains under investigation.
