Residents concerned about abandoned homes in San Benito neighborhood
San Benito residents say they're concerned about the abandoned homes in their neighborhood and the activity going on around these abandoned properties.
San Benito local Miguel Hernandez says he’s tired of seeing rundown properties in and around his neighborhood. Hernandez believes it's become an eyesore for the city and even a hangout for illegal activity.
He wants a solution sooner than later because some of those homes are next to schools.
"Either disease, pick up some drugs--needles that are left behind. Who knows, there might be a guy in there passed out. He wakes up, then what's he going to do," Hernandez said.
According to the San Benito Director of Planning and Development, Bernard Rodriguez, the city has an ordinance in place when dealing with abandoned homes.
Rodriguez says the city has some projects that could involve cleaning out those areas that have been unattended.
"We are working with them in hoping to demolish that building," Rodriguez said.
