Rio Grande City crash leaves 1 in critical condition

A 37-year-old woman is in critical condition Tuesday following a crash in Rio Grande City.

At about 5:45 p.m., multiple authorities responded to the major accident on U.S. Highway 83 and Francisco Chapa Road, also known as “Blas” Chapa Road.

Preliminary investigation reveals a red Chevy Camaro lost control and veered off the road, crashing into two parked vehicles at Starr County Auto and RV Sales.

The 37-year-old female driver, who has not been identified, was airlifted to a McAllen hospital in critical condition. The woman's two teenage sons were in the vehicle at the time of the crash and were both transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

RGC police and firefighters, La Casita Fire Department and the Starr County Sheriff’s Department responded to the crash, which remains under investigation.
