School lockdown temporarily closes polling location in Donna
Tue, 04 Nov 2014 21:57:22 GMT —
Authorities confirm that voters were briefly turned away from one polling site in Donna after a school was placed on lockdown.
It centered around an alleged weapon found at the W.A. Todd Ninth Grade Campus off North Salinas Boulevard.
The school was placed on lockdown from 7:45 until 8:08 a.m. Tuesday.
Donna ISD Superintendent Jesus Reyna said a student reported the threat but the "weapon" was later determined to be just a laser pointer.
A polling site at the school's gym had to be closed for 23 minutes.
Reyna told Action 4 News that he contacted the Hidalgo County Elections Department to alert them about the temporary closure.
The polling site is scheduled to still close at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Action 4 News put in a call to elections administrators to find out if they will stay open later because of the brief lockdown.
