Sheriff: Deputy accused of injury to a child put on administrative leave
Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra announced Saturday that a deputy has been put on administrative leave pending further investigation into an injury to a child case.
Emilio Zavala, a sheriff's deputy at the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office, was booked into the Hidalgo County jail on Saturday.
McAllen police arrested Zavala on a warrant, according to Guerra.
Guerra said in the statement released on Facebook:
"The incident is not related to his duties for the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office, and Zavala has been placed on administrative leave pending further investigation."
Guerra went on to say, "We will thoroughly investigate any and all allegations of employee malfeasance to maintain accountability and transparency to you the citizens we serve."
Zavala has since been released from the Hidalgo County jail, according to jail records. His bond was set at $5,000.
