Preliminary autopsy results show missing San Benito woman drowned

The body of a missing San Benito woman was pulled out of a canal on Monday, the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office announced during a press conference.

Update: Preliminary autopsy results show missing San Benito woman Cristina Carrizales, 30, drowned after she drove into a canal Sept. 8, according to Deputy Chief Gus Reyna with the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office.

Original Story: The body of a missing San Benito woman was pulled out of a canal on Monday, the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office announced during a press conference.

The Brownsville Fire Department diving squad, along with Cameron County Sheriff’s investigators, pulled out a white Camero from the canal on Hudson Road, about a mile west away from Farm-to-Market 2520, Monday afternoon. Authorities say the body of Cristina Carrizales, 30, of San Benito was found inside the vehicle.

Carrizales was reported missing Sunday after reportedly getting into a dispute with a family member. She was last seen driving away in a white Camero.

Authorities say foul play has not been ruled out. The case remains under investigation.
