Agents with the Starr County High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area are searching for a 21-year-old man who escaped from custody Friday morning.
Agents say 21-year-old Luis Alfredo Salinas managed to manipulate the locks to his handcuffs and ran away from agents at the Starr County HIDTA office.
After searching an area behind the office that leads to the Rio Grande, agents found foot traffic that indicated Salinas possibly swam to Mexico.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Salinas for possession of marijuana, a second-degree felony, and escape from custody, a third-degree felony.
Rio Grande City police, the Starr County District Attorney’s Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety and Border Patrol agents assisted in the search.
