Starr County deputy resigns amid cocaine investigation

A Starr County Sheriff's Office deputy has resigned amid an investigation involving a large amount of cocaine discovered in a property owned by him and his brother.

Sheriff Rene Fuentes told Action 4 News that deputy Israel Rios resigned amid the investigation.

Fuentes told Action 4 News that authorities seized a large amount of cocaine from a house owned by Rios and his brother back in late August.

The house is located next to Rios' home.

Rios told investigators that the house had been rented out and that the drugs belonged to the tenants.

Sheriff Fuentes said no tenants have been found.
