Sullivan City woman accused of working at illegal game room in Mission
Deputies arrested a Sullivan City woman after she implicated herself in an investigation into an illegal game room in Mission, according to the criminal complaints against her.
Deputies say they obtained a statement from 42-year-old Concepcion Estrada of Sullivan City, in which she confirmed she worked at the game room on the 1500 block of Minnesota Road.
Estrada told deputies she worked at the location as a “match”, or “a person who matches a bet on a slot machine a customer is playing at,” according to a criminal complaint written by an officer for the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts Criminal Investigation Division (TCPA CISD).
During two separate inspections on Nov. 30, 2017 and Dec. 5, 2017, the Hidalgo County Fire Marshal's Office, Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office and TCPA CISD officers observed more than 80 eight-liner machines inside the gambling establishment.
TCPA CISD officers say the coin-operated machines were not in compliance with state code.
Estrada has been charged with gambling promotion, a Class A misdemeanor; possession of a gambling device, a Class A misdemeanor; keeping a gambling place, a Class A misdemeanor; and coin operated machines without a license, a Class A misdemeanor.
Estrada remains in the Hidalgo County jail and couldn’t be reached for comment.
