Suspect charged following deadly stabbing in Pharr
Update: Police have identified the victim as 32-year-old Julio Villarreal of Pharr.
Original Story: One person is dead and another has been detained following a weekend stabbing in Pharr on Sunday.
Authorities were called out to the 3400 block of N. Mezcal around 7:30 p.m. in reference to a male subject who had been injured.
When officers arrived, they located a man who had lacerations to his lower body.
Police said that man was taken to the hospital where he later died.
A preliminary investigation has revealed that a disturbance occurred at the location.
One man, Feliciano Avalos, 50, of Pharr, has been detained in connection with the stabbing.
Avalos has been charged with first degree murder, possession of marijuana and driving without a license.
Bond for Avalos has been set at $1 million.
If convicted, Avalos could spend the next 99 years behind bars.
We've learned that this isn't Avalos' first time being in trouble with the law. He has charges dating back to 2005. Some of the charges have been dropped and it's unclear if the other charges have been pursued.
