Suspect in custody following stabbing on South Padre Island
A suspect is in custody following a stabbing Monday on South Padre Island, according to Angelique “Nikki” Soto, a spokesperson for the city.
Billy Ray Autrey is accused of stabbing a 34-year-old man multiple times on the 100 block of Ling Street at about 9 a.m., South Padre Island Police Chief Randy Smith said on Monday.
Smith says the man, who has not been identified, is a resident of South Padre Island and called police after being stabbed. Police believe the stabbing isn’t spring break-related, adding that Autrey and the man knew each other beforehand.
On Monday, the man was in critical condition at a local hospital. Further details about his condition have not been released.
Details about Autrey's arrest were not immediately available.
