Texas Rangers investigating officer-involved shooting in Mission
One man is dead following an officer-involved shooting that occurred in a Mission retirement community Monday.
Officers responded to the Wagon City South Mobile Home Park Monday after an elderly man reported to police that his son had assaulted him and was armed with an ax, said Mission police Chief Robert Dominguez.
When police arrived on scene, they found David Green III, the man's 38-year-old son, armed with a machete, Dominguez said. Green failed to follow officer's orders to drop the machete. Instead, he got into a truck and attempted to run the officer over, Dominguez said.
After a pursuit through the park, police said Green crashed into a bush but didn't want to surrender.
"The officers on scene, they kept telling him to stop. He failed to stop and was trying to, at this point disengage the vehicle to move forward," Dominguez said. "That's when the final shots were fired and at this point he passed away there at the scene."
The Texas Rangers are investigating the case. No officers were injured.
