Two arrested after narcotics search warrant in Alamo

Alamo police cracked down on drugs Friday with the department's first raid with its new police chief.

Update 3/17/18: Sylvia Contreras and Raul Salinas Jr. were arrested Friday and have been charged with possession of marijuana, according to Sgt. Saul Solis of the Alamo Police Department.

Original Story: With a new chief in office, the Alamo Police Department executed its first search warrant Friday with the help of the San Juan Police LEERRT SWAT Unit.

Alamo Chief of Police Baudelia Castillo confirmed that a man and woman were arrested in the early morning raid. In addition, a large amount of marijuana was seized.

“This area is a high profile area of narcotics being moved and transported,” said Castillo. “We got information and we started doing our surveillance.”

To reduce high crime areas that involve narcotics within the city, Castillo recently implemented a major crimes unit.

"We're concentrating on narcotics, stash houses—anything that's a concern to the public and this team will attack, investigate and execute search warrants on it,” said Castillo.

Castillo said more search warrants are expected to be conducted throughout the community.
