Unofficial results: Former McAllen commissioner voted Hidalgo County judge nominee
Hidalgo County residents voted former McAllen commissioner Richard Cortez as their Democratic nominee for county judge.
Cortez won about 55 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results published by the Hidalgo County Elections Department.
Cortez edged out former County Judge Eloy Pulido, who served the seat from 1999 to 2003.
Cortez gave up his seat as McAllen District 1 city commissioner to run for the position. The win comes after incumbent Ramon Garcia chose not to run for re-election.
