UTRGV receives approval for PhD program in clinical psychology
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley has received approval from the state to establish a new Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in clinical psychology.
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board requires the university to implement the new program within two years.
UTRGV says the program will focus on producing clinical psychology scientist-practitioners “with knowledge about Hispanic cultures in the Rio Grande Valley and the United States.”
According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, Hidalgo and Cameron counties had 4.2 and 2.3 licensed psychologists per 100,000 residents in 2014, respectively.
