Valley ambulance company owner gets 24 months in prison

A federal judge has sentenced the owner of a Rio Grande Valley-based ambulance company to two years in prison.
Jesus Jorge Flores appeared before U.S. District Court Judge Randy Crane in McAllen for sentencing on Monday morning.
The 38-year-old of St. Mary's Ambulance, Inc. pleaded guilty back in July 2008 to milking more than $1 million dollars worth of fraudulent claims from Medicare and Medicaid.
Judge Crane ordered that the 38-year-old Weslaco man pay restitution as well serve two years in federal prison to be followed by three years probation.
Court records show Flores ran the scam between February 2004 and September 2005 but wasn't arrested until October 2007.
Judge Crane allowed Flores to remain free on bond until June 7th, when he must report for his his prison assignment.
