Valley Metro will continue to offer free rides
Valley residents can look forward to another year of free fare when riding with Valley Metro.
Today, the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council approved an extension of that program for the bus system.
Officials with Valley Metro say free fare for bus riders began with a pilot program in March of 2017.
Federal and state funding assist in covering costs that the fare normally would have.
"This would be a good approach to entice people to ride our buses, get more familiar with it, and hopefully spread the word that public transportation is available here in the Valley," says Tom Logan, director for Valley Metro.
The service will continue in Zapata, Starr, Cameron, Hidalgo, and Willacy Counties.
