Samuel Trevino Liscano, 39, was found guilty for one count of aggravated sexual assault of an 8-month-old baby girl on Friday, Feb. 1.
Liscano, a Weslaco resident, was charged and convicted of sexually assaulting the baby on April 14, 2017.
His bond was set at $70,000.
Liscano faces an automatic life sentence when he appears before the 398th District Court Judge Keno Vasquez on Tuesday, Feb. 26.
He is a registered sex offender for a prior Indecency with a Child by Sexual Contact case for which he was convicted in Cameron County in 2009.
“The outstanding investigative work of the Weslaco Police Department and our Special Crimes prosecutors have ensured that no other baby or child will be victimized by this child predator,” said District Attorney Ricardo Rodriguez Jr. “Our prayers are with the entire family and toddler that this horrific crime will not prevent her from having a safe and happy future.”
This is a clear example of sending a strong message to the community that we will not tolerate any sexual abuse against children. We must continue to work together to protect our children and stand against abuse, Rodriguez said.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Marcela Saenz Salinas of the Special Crimes Division with assistance by Chief Prosecutor Hope Palacios.
“Our office thanks the Weslaco Police investigators and all the Special Crimes Division staff who worked hard to seek justice and to give a voice to the child victim in the prosecution process,” Rodriguez said.
