Willie Nelson tweets at Trump: 'Let's go down to a border detention center together'
Texas country music legend Willie Nelson is calling on President Donald Trump to visit a Border Patrol detention center with him for a first hand look at what goes on there.
In a statement released to Rolling Stone last week, Nelson spoke out against the controversial practice of separating immigrant children from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border.
"What's going on at our southern border is outrageous. Christians everywhere should be up in arms," Nelson told Rolling Stone. "What happened to 'Bring us your tired and weak and we will make them strong?' This is still the promise land."
On Monday evening, Nelson took his message straight to Donald Trump on the president's preferred method of communication: Twitter.
In a tweet from an account that belongs to Nelson's wife Annie, Willie wrote "Let’s go down to a border detention center together to better understand what’s happening down there?! Let’s talk!"
The tweet also tagged House Speaker Paul Ryan, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Congressmen Beto O'Rourke, Ted Lieu and Adam Schiff, Senator Dianne Feinstein, as well as MSNBC host Rachel Maddow and CNN political contributor Paul Begala.
