Authorities have confirmed that a woman was found dead near South Padre Island on Wednesday evening.
We're told the woman's body was found north of Beach Access 6.
Ira Zuniga, Public Information Officer for the Texas Game Warden, tells us that earlier in the day a kayak washed ashore.
Authorities said that a county and police officers contacted the U.S. Coast Guard, who in turn, called in a helicopter.
We’re told the woman’s body was later recovered.
Her identity has not been released yet as the investigation is ongoing. An autopsy has been ordered in connection to the woman’s death.
Zuniga added that if you are going out on the water, be sure to wear a life jacket, learn to swim or take a boating education class. Also, be sure to let someone know where you are going while out on the open water.
