35-year-old McAllen man charged with murder
Investigators charged a 35-year-old McAllen man with murder Monday.
Juan Manuel Vasquez Hernandez, 35, of McAllen is charged with murder, a first-degree felony.
Hernandez is accused of killing 61-year-old Maria Alisa Garza, said Lt. Joel Morales, a spokesman for the McAllen Police Department. Officers found Garza dead Saturday at an apartment on the 600 block of North Broadway Street.
The police department announced the cause of death Tuesday in a news release, but provided no details:
The victim was identified as Maria Alisa Garza 61 years of age. The preliminary autopsy indicates asphyxiation. The department awaits the final autopsy.
CBS 4 News requested a copy of the arrest warrant and affidavit from the McAllen Municipal Court.
A judge set bond at $1 million.
Court records don't list an attorney for Hernandez, who remains at the Hidalgo County jail and couldn't be reached for comment.
