Mexican authorities seize nearly $1 million from passenger bus traveling from Reynosa
The Mexican Navy (Marina Armada of Mexico) and the Tamaulipas State Police on Sunday night seized $981,140 cash from a passenger bus traveling from Reynosa to Puebla, Mexico, according to a news release from the governor of Tamaulipas.
The seizure took place at a checkpoint in Alfredo V. Bonfil, Tamaulipas--approximately 35 miles south of the Texas border.
Through the use of Gamma-ray equipment, state police detected irregularities in the internal structure of the bus. During a search, police found 43 packages of cash inside a hidden side panel.
One of the bus operators admitted he would receive a cash payment after delivering the money.
The drivers, money and vehicle remain in the custody of the Attorney General's Office in Reynosa for further investigation.
