More than 100 immigrants detained in a matter of hours at South Texas checkpoint

LAREDO, Texas -- Border Patrol agents detained more than 100 immigrants at a checkpoint near Laredo within a matter of hours on Sunday.

The first incident happened at about 9:30 p.m. when agents were performing an immigration inspection on one of the passengers of a tractor-trailer. During that time, agents found 65 undocumented immigrants in the trailer, according to a news release. The temperature inside the trailer was 90 degrees, but all were found to be in good health.

The second incident happened at about 2:30 a.m. the next morning when a tractor-trailer was referred to secondary inspection. Agents found 49 immigrants smuggled inside the trailer. The truck was refrigerated and it was 59 degrees inside the truck, according to the news release.

All 114 immigrants were taken into custody.
