Pregnant woman trying to sell Xbox on Facebook Marketplace robbed, shot in the knees
AUSTIN, Texas —
A pregnant woman is expected to be okay after she was shot in both knees during an aggravated assault that was the result of trying to sell a video game system.
According to court documents, a woman told Austin Police potential buyers met her and her boyfriend at a Southeast Austin apartment complex last Tuesday to buy an Xbox.
The boyfriend told the victim to bring down the game console. When the woman saw three men standing with her boyfriend, she told police she instantly recognized one of the men from middle school as John Joseph Almaguer, 20, someone she stayed in contact with through Facebook.
The woman told police Almaguer had a semi-automatic handgun with him. According to court documents, Almaguer told the woman he would shoot her, and she pleaded with him not to because she is pregnant.
The suspect put the gun to the woman’s throat, police say, and another one of the men punched her boyfriend in the face. They left in a vehicle after taking the Xbox.
The victim says she heard gunshots and realized she was shot.
At the same building where the shooting happened, Kasandra Marroquin said she heard five gunshots outside her door.
“That was just mind blowing to see all that, to be in that situation hearing the gun shots so close,” said Marroquin.
Marroquin said she opened her door and let the couple inside and saw the pregnant woman had gunshots in both kneecaps. She said she applied pressure to the wounds while calling 911.
“The poor girl, she’s on the floor blood everywhere, her boyfriend is freaking out,” said Marroquin.
A woman who identified herself as the victim's cousin said she’s expected to be okay. An arrest affidavit was issued for Almaguer, who is facing second-degree felony charges.
