Former Los Fresnos Falcon Is Finalist For Major College Football Award

Center Mario Benavides of the Lousiville Cardinals, a former standout at Los Fresnos, has been named a finalist for the Rimington Trophy, presented to the most outstanding center in college football.

Benavides, a four-year starter at center for the Cardinals, has started 46 of the last 50 games in his collegiate career, and every single game as a senior to help Louisville to a 10-2 record, their second-straight Big East title, and a trip to the 2013 Sugar Bowl.

The winner of the Rimington Trophy is selected by determining the consensus All-American center pick from four existing All-America teams:
