(CBS 4 SPORTS) - On Saturday in Mission, 24 7-on-7 Football teams from across South Texas will compete for an opportunity to compete in the Texas 7-on-7 State Tournament in College Station at the end of June. Games will be played at three sites at Mission Veterans, Sharyland High and Sharyland Pioneer. The teams will be divided into six pools of four teams each and face off in round-robin matches within their pool before play

Among those teams is one of the tournament hosts in Mission Veterans. The Patriots are a perfect 9-0 in their 7-on-7 season. They advanced to championship games on three separate occasions in the summer of 2017, but just missed qualifying. They are hoping this season they can reach the state tournament.

Mission Veterans will host Pools A and B at their high school stadium. Other teams in pool A are Harlingen South, La Joya Palmviewm and Weslaco. Pool B will have Laredo Nixon, La Joya, Laredo Alexander and Valley View.

In Harlingen the Cardinals are hoping the 2018 summer of 7-on-7 will help them rebound from a disappointing 2017 football season in which the Cards missed the playoffs for the first time in nearly 20 years. The Cardinals put in extra time on Friday to prepare for the tournament where they will compete in Pool C at Sharyland Pioneer High School and will face PSJA Memorial, Edinburg North, and Laredo United. The Pool C winner will be the winner of Pool D which will have site host Pioneer, McAllen High, Donna North and Laredo Martin.
