UTRGV Guard Dixon Named to All-WAC First Team
EDINBURG – The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) announced on Tuesday that senior guard Nick Dixon of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) men’s basketball team is part of the All-WAC First Team, as voted on by the head coaches based on statistics compiled during WAC play.
Dixon averageDid 20.9 points on .419 shooting, including .343 from behind the arc, plus .784 from the foul line, 4.5 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.3 steals in 14 WAC games.
During WAC play, Dixon lead the WAC in scoring (20.9) and ranked tied for seventh in steals per game (1.3), tied for ninth in three-pointers made (23), tied for 10th in offensive rebounding (1.6), and tied for 15th in rebounding (4.5).
Overall, Dixon leads the WAC in scoring (20.5), ranks third in steals per game (1.4) and seventh in free throw shooting (.788).
Nationally, Dixon ranks second in the NCAA in free throw attempts (264), third in free throws made (208), 28 in total points (635), 38th in scoring (20.5), 104th in field goal attempts (415), 130th in field goals made (187), 197th in total steals (43), 215th in steals per game (1.39), 237th in free throw shooting (.788), and 239th in field goal shooting (.451).
His 635 points are the ninth-highest single-season total in program history while his 208 free throws made and 264 free throws attempted both rank second.
Dixon ranks 14th in program history in scoring with 1,247 points.
UTRGV enters the WAC Tournament as the No. 5 seed and will face No. 4 Seattle U on Thursday at 10:30 p.m. on ESPN3.
