(CBS 4 Sports) - Weslaco ISD approved the promotion of Special Teams Coordinator Roy Stroman to the head coaching position for Panthers football at Monday's school board meeting. Stroman has been an assistant coach at Weslaco high since 2008.

Before joining the staff at Weslaco he was the defensive coordinator at Tuloso-Midway and an assistant defensive coordinator for legendary Pearland head coach Tony Heath.

Stroman replaces Michael Salinas who resigned his position after just two seasons in Weslaco and a recent trip to the third round of the playoffs. Stroman inherits a team coming off an 11-2 seasons with players at key positions returning.
