UTRGV Men's Hoops Headed to Central America
(CBS 4 Sports) - Most NCAA basketball teams have to wait until the fall before they can start hitting the practice floor. The men's program at the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley is already prepping for games taking place later this month.
The NCAA allows basketball programs to go on an international trip every four years and this year Coach Lew Hill has decided to send his program down to Costa Rica where they will play a pair of games including one against the Costa Rican National Team. With the trip the NCAA also allows 10 additional practices which is invaluable for teams looking to get a jumpstart on the new season
The squad will fly down to Costa Rica on August 17th and in addition to workouts and a pair of games, the team will also participate in community activities and will also take in the Costa Rican culture as well. The team also plans to go ziplining, snorkeling among other activities as a way to bond as a team before the school year begins.
