In the 31st minute, freshman Emily Zapata took the pitch for the first time and scored her first-career goal on a free kick from just outside the top of the box seven second later to make the score 3-0.

On the next play of the match, a foul in the box led to a penalty kick goal by Kayla Smith to bring Texas Southern (0-1-0) within 3-1.

Sophomore Jada MacLean completed the scoring by going top shelf in the 84th minute off a pass from freshman IDEA Toros College Prep alum Isabella Marinaro.

Junior Kinga Szemik (1-0-0) finished with three saves for UTRGV while Alexis Robles (0-1-0) made one save in the first half and Paula Vizoso made six saves in the second half for Texas Southern.
