Vipers/Toros President Garcia to step down
(CBS 4 SPORTS)- For the first time in eight years the professional sports franchises in the Rio Grande Valley will be under new leadership.
According to sources close to the Rio Grande Vipers/Toros, longtime President Bert Garcia will announce his resignation at a press conference today at HEB Park.
Garcia was the 2011 Executive of the Year in the NBA Development League and was instrumental in the awarding of the USL Franchise to the Rio Grande Valley and the hybrid partnership with the MLS Houston Dynamo.
The source would not elaborate on the details or timing of Garcia’s departure, however the future of the organization’s leadership will be made clearer at the 11 am press conference.
Garcia was named president of the Vipers in 2010 and has served in the same role for RGVFC since their inception.
