Santiago Caicedo is a reporter covering Cameron and Willacy Counties for CBS 4 News in the Río Grande Valley.
He previously worked at KGLA-TV in New Orleans as a reporter covering local crime, politics and immigration.
He graduated from Loyola University New Orleans with a bachelor’s degree in History. While in college, he was a reporter and photojournalist at his school’s newspaper The Maroon and a radio DJ. He also helped restart the student-run video news operation.
While in New Orleans, he interned at WDSU-TV and then worked as an early-morning board operator at WEZB 97.1 FM All The Hits B97.
While anchoring his high school’s weekly international news bulletins at The Oakridge School in Arlington, TX, he noticed the valley always had exciting stories, from cartels to immigration. Adding that the stories were happening in Texas, the area’s common use of Spanish and so many great reporters coming from south Texas, the valley made for a perfect place to be a reporter later on after college.
